Prepare the Bread
Take 4 slices of day-old bread. You can use any type of bread, with or without the crust.
Tear the bread into small pieces or cut it into cubes for even drying.
Dry the Bread
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
Spread the bread pieces evenly on a baking sheet. Ensure they’re in a single layer for even drying.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, checking occasionally, until the bread is completely dry and crisp.
Cool and Blend
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
Transfer the dried bread to a food processor.
Pulse the bread in short bursts until you achieve the desired crumb size (fine or coarse).
Add Seasoning (Optional)
For flavored breadcrumbs, mix in:
Use Day-Old Bread: For the best breadcrumbs, always use day-old or stale bread. Fresh bread can result in clumpy crumbs.
Store Properly: Place breadcrumbs in an airtight container and store them at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. For longer storage, freeze them in a resealable freezer bag for up to 3 months.
Reheat and Revive: If breadcrumbs lose crispiness, spread them on a baking sheet and toast them in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes before use.
